Content Breakdown

Here's how that playtime is expected to distribute across GTA 6's content:

  • Main story missions — 70-90 missions across the full campaign, estimated at 40-60 hours depending on playstyle. GTA V had 69 main missions. With dual protagonists and a larger world, GTA 6 will likely have more.
  • Stranger & side missions — 30-50+ side missions and stranger encounters. These are optional narrative-driven missions found throughout Leonida, similar to GTA V's Strangers & Freaks. Estimated 20-30 hours.
  • Activities & hobbies — Golf, tennis, racing, fishing, nightclubs, gambling, and more. Each activity has its own progression. Estimated 15-25 hours to try everything.
  • Collectibles & exploration — Hidden packages, letter scraps, stunt jumps, unique vehicles, underwater secrets, and Easter eggs. The most time-consuming completionist content. Estimated 20-40 hours.
  • Property management — Buying and managing businesses, safehouses, and garages. Passive income mechanics that encourage return visits. Estimated 10-15 hours.
  • Random events — Dynamic world events that trigger during free roam — robberies, car chases, hitchhikers, and more. These are infinite and repeatable.

How It Compares

GTA 6's estimated length versus other Rockstar games (main story only):

GTA III
15h
Vice City
18h
San Andreas
30h
GTA IV
28h
GTA V
32h
RDR2
50h
GTA 6 (est.)
40-60h

The trend is clear: each Rockstar game gets longer. RDR2 was their longest at approximately 50 hours for the main story. GTA 6, with a bigger world and dual protagonists, is expected to be in the same range or longer.

Why GTA 6 Will Be Longer

  • Dual protagonists — Jason and Lucia each have their own story threads that interweave. This means more narrative content than a single-protagonist game.
  • Bigger map — Leonida is expected to be 1.5-2x the size of GTA V's Los Santos. More geography means more missions spread across a larger area.
  • Heist complexity — GTA V's heists had multi-stage preparation missions. GTA 6's heists are expected to be even more elaborate, with planning, setup, and execution phases.
  • Modern game expectations — A $69.99 game in 2026 is expected to deliver substantial single-player content. Rockstar has to justify the price with volume and quality.
  • $1-2 billion budget — The sheer investment in development means more content than any previous GTA game.

Replayability

Beyond first completion, GTA 6 will offer significant replay value:

  • Multiple endings — Like GTA V's three endings, GTA 6 is expected to have branching conclusions that encourage replaying the final act.
  • Heist approach choices — Stealth vs. loud, different crew members, different getaway routes — each heist can be tackled multiple ways.
  • Character-specific content — Some missions may only be accessible as Jason or Lucia, encouraging a second playthrough focused on the other character.
  • GTA 6 Online — The multiplayer component is essentially infinite content, with heists, races, businesses, and ongoing updates expected for years post-launch.
