CAN MY PC RUN GTA 6?

Estimated system requirements, GPU tier list, and build recommendations. Everything you need to know before spending a dollar.

LAST UPDATED: APRIL 2026 · ESTIMATED SPECS — NOT OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED

⚠️ These specs are estimates. Rockstar has not announced official PC system requirements. GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only — the PC version is expected in late 2027 or early 2028. All specs below are based on RAGE engine analysis, console hardware equivalents, and community consensus. Do not buy hardware based on estimates. We'll update this page the moment official specs are announced.

The Short Answer

If you have a GTX 1660 or better with 16GB RAM and an SSD, you'll probably be able to run GTA 6 at minimum settings. For a comfortable 1440p/60fps experience, you're looking at an RTX 4070 / RX 7800 XT tier GPU with a modern 8-core CPU. For 4K Ultra with ray tracing, plan on an RTX 4080+ or next-gen equivalent.

Why These Specs?

GTA 6 runs on RAGE 9, a heavily upgraded version of Rockstar's proprietary engine. Based on trailer analysis, the 2022 leak footage, and Rockstar's track record, three things will tax your hardware more than any previous GTA game:

🧠

CPU: Density Simulation

Every pedestrian, every car changing lanes, every police AI reaction is calculated by your processor. Vice City's dense urban environment will push CPU requirements hard. Quad-core CPUs are effectively dead for AAA gaming in 2026 — you need at least 6 cores, ideally 8+. AMD's X3D chips (like the 7800X3D) with their massive L3 cache are the gold standard for open-world games.

🎨

GPU: Global Illumination & Scale

Realistic lighting bouncing off wet pavement and car hoods in real-time, combined with massive draw distances across Leonida's open world. VRAM matters more than ever — 8GB is the minimum, 12GB is comfortable, 16GB is ideal. Ray tracing will be optional but will demand significantly more GPU power.

💾

Storage: Asset Streaming

GTA 6 uses high-speed asset streaming to load the world as you drive through it. An HDD simply cannot read data fast enough. An SSD is non-negotiable — expect it to be a hard requirement, not just a recommendation. NVMe is preferred for the smoothest experience, especially at highway speeds.

Can a Laptop Run GTA 6?

Yes, but only with a dedicated GPU. Integrated graphics (Intel UHD, AMD Radeon integrated) won't cut it. Gaming laptops with an RTX 4060 or better should handle the game at medium settings. Keep in mind that laptop GPUs typically run 10–20% slower than their desktop counterparts due to thermal constraints.

The biggest laptop concern will be cooling. GTA 6's sustained open-world rendering will push a laptop harder than most games — expect fan noise and potential thermal throttling on thinner models. A dedicated gaming laptop with good thermals (Lenovo Legion, ASUS ROG, MSI Raider tier) is recommended.

The Golden Rule: Don't Buy Yet

This is the most important section on this page. Do not buy PC hardware for GTA 6 right now. Here's why:

  • No official specs exist. Everything above is an estimate. Rockstar could release surprisingly optimized specs or surprisingly demanding ones.
  • The PC version is 1–2 years away. GTA 6 launches November 2026 on consoles only. A PC port is expected late 2027 or early 2028.
  • GPU prices will drop. By late 2027, next-gen GPUs will be available and current-gen prices will have fallen significantly. An RTX 4070 that costs $500 today might be $300 by then.
  • New hardware will launch. Both NVIDIA and AMD will have new GPU generations by the time GTA 6 hits PC. Building now means you'll have last-gen hardware on launch day.

The smart move: play on console at launch if you can't wait, and build or upgrade your PC when official requirements are announced. For a detailed PC build strategy, see our Build a PC for GTA 6 guide.

Storage Reality Check

GTA V's PC installation grew to over 100GB with updates. Red Dead Redemption 2 requires 150GB. GTA 6 will almost certainly need 150GB+ at launch, with potential growth over time through updates and GTA Online content.

Plan for at least a dedicated 250GB–500GB SSD partition for GTA 6 and its future updates. A 1TB NVMe SSD is the safest bet if you want room to breathe.

How Does It Compare to Previous Rockstar Titles?

Each Rockstar generation has jumped roughly 2–3 GPU generations in requirements:

📊

The Pattern

GTA V (2015 PC): Min GTX 660 / Rec GTX 770 — 65GB storage
RDR2 (2019 PC): Min GTX 770 / Rec GTX 1060 — 150GB storage
GTA 6 (2027/28 PC): Min ~GTX 1660 / Rec ~RTX 4070 — 150GB+ storage (est.)

The jump from RDR2 to GTA 6 represents about 2–3 GPU generations, consistent with the GTA V → RDR2 jump. If this pattern holds, the estimated specs above are in the right ballpark.

The DLSS / FSR Factor

Modern upscaling tech like NVIDIA's DLSS and AMD's FSR can dramatically change what hardware you need. If GTA 6 supports DLSS 3+ with frame generation (which is very likely for a 2027+ PC release), you could get 4K-quality visuals with a mid-range GPU. This could shift the effective requirement down by one tier across the board.

Rockstar supported DLSS in Red Dead Redemption 2 (added post-launch) and both DLSS and FSR in the GTA V Expanded & Enhanced edition. Strong DLSS/FSR support at launch on PC is expected.
