The Thesis

Everyone says GTA 6 will have a creator economy. But how big will it actually be? Instead of speculating, we did what Rockstar's own job listings tell us they're doing: we studied Roblox.

Roblox is the most successful creator economy in gaming history. Their financial filings are public. Their creator payout data is specific. And their growth trajectory maps almost perfectly onto the infrastructure Rockstar is building with Cfx.re, the Cfx Marketplace, and four new Creator Platform hires.

This guide breaks down the hard numbers from Roblox's 2025 10-K filing and models what a GTA 6 creator economy could look like — from conservative estimates to the bull case that could produce millionaires.

Roblox by the Numbers (2025 Actuals)

These aren't projections. These are audited figures from Roblox Corporation's annual SEC filing, published February 2026.

KEY INSIGHT

Roblox's creator payouts grew 63% year-over-year — faster than revenue (66%) and users (49%). The platform is paying creators a larger share as the ecosystem matures. This is the trajectory Rockstar is studying.

GTA 6 vs. Roblox: The Comparison

At first glance, comparing Roblox to GTA 6 seems absurd — one is a kids' platform, the other is the most anticipated game in history. But the comparison isn't about the games. It's about the economics of creator platforms.

The critical difference: GTA's audience pays more. Roblox's paying user rate is only 1.4% of its daily actives — because most Roblox users are under 13 and don't have credit cards. GTA's audience is predominantly 18–35 with disposable income. GTA Online already proved this: Shark Card sales generated over $5 billion in lifetime revenue from a much smaller active player base than Roblox.

Why GTA 6's Conversion Rate Will Be Higher

Roblox converts 1.4% of daily actives into paying users. GTA Online historically converts closer to 15–20% of its active base into microtransaction spenders. That 10x difference in conversion rate is the single biggest variable in modeling GTA 6's creator economy.

Three factors drive this:

  • Demographics. Roblox's largest user segment is under 13 — limited spending ability. GTA's core audience is 18–35 with steady income and established spending habits on gaming.
  • Spend culture. GTA Online normalized $10–100 microtransactions over a decade. The Shark Card model trained GTA's audience to spend real money for in-game advantages. That behavior transfers to GTA 6.
  • Content quality ceiling. Roblox experiences are built by amateurs and small studios using Roblox Studio. GTA 6 UGC will be built on the RAGE engine — the same technology powering one of the most visually impressive games ever made. Higher quality = higher willingness to pay.

Three Scenarios for GTA 6's Creator Economy

We modeled three scenarios based on different assumptions about player base, conversion rate, and average creator spend:

CONSERVATIVE

$240M

30M monthly actives × 1% creator spend conversion × $8/mo avg spend. Roblox-like conversion rate on a smaller base.

BASE CASE

$720M

40M monthly actives × 3% conversion × $6/mo avg creator spend. Reflects GTA's stronger spending culture.

BULL CASE

$1.5B+

50M monthly actives × 5% conversion × $6/mo. Roblox-scale payouts with GTA's premium audience. This is the scenario that produces millionaires.

Even the conservative scenario — $240 million annually — would make GTA 6's creator economy larger than the entire Fortnite Creative economy. The bull case would rival Roblox itself, which took 18 years and 127 million daily users to achieve.

5 Lessons from Roblox That Apply to GTA 6

01 The top 1% earn disproportionately

Roblox's top 10 creators averaged $33.9 million each in 2025. The top 1,000 averaged $1.3 million. But the remaining 22,500+ payout recipients earned far less. Creator economies follow power law distributions — the early movers and the exceptional creators capture the majority of the value. For GTA 6, this means being among the first 100 serious creators matters more than being the best creator who shows up a year late.

02 Platform tools determine who can create

Roblox's success wasn't because their engine was the best — it's because Roblox Studio made creation accessible. A 14-year-old with no prior coding experience can build and publish a game. Rockstar's job listings explicitly reference Roblox Studio and Fortnite Creative as models. If GTA 6's creation tools are accessible, the creator pool explodes. If they require professional development skills, the pie is split among fewer people — but each slice is larger.

03 Engagement-based payouts changed everything

Roblox doesn't just pay creators for direct sales. They have an engagement-based payout system that rewards creators based on the time users spend in their experiences. This incentivizes quality and retention over one-time purchases. If Rockstar implements a similar model for GTA 6, creators who build experiences people stay in — RP servers, custom game modes, social spaces — will earn far more than creators who sell one-time assets.

04 Safety and compliance are non-negotiable

Roblox spent hundreds of millions on content moderation, age verification, and safety systems. They've been sued, investigated, and publicly criticized for failures in this area. Rockstar is hiring a Compliance Manager for their Creator Platform — they've seen what happens when UGC platforms skip this step. For creators, this means strict content policies, prohibited content lists, and review processes. Build original content. Don't rip assets. Don't push boundaries on content policy.

05 The real money is in "experiences," not items

Roblox's highest-earning creators don't sell hats. They build entire game experiences — Adopt Me, Brookhaven, Blox Fruits — that attract millions of daily players and generate revenue through in-game purchases and engagement payouts. For GTA 6, this maps directly to RP servers and custom game modes. The creator who builds the most compelling experience — not the best individual car model or script — will earn the most.

The Timing Advantage

Roblox launched in 2006 and didn't hit $1 billion in creator payouts until 2024 — that's 18 years of growth. GTA 6 will launch into a market that already understands creator economies. The infrastructure exists. The audience is primed. The spending behavior is established.

Roblox had to teach the world what a creator economy was. GTA 6 just has to plug into it.

This is why the timing matters. The FiveM ecosystem already has tens of thousands of creators selling scripts, assets, and server access. The Cfx Marketplace already processes real payments. The alt:V shutdown consolidated the ecosystem. Rockstar isn't building from zero — they're formalizing and scaling what already exists.

What This Means for You

If you're reading this in April 2026, you have exactly seven months before GTA 6 launches. Here's what the Roblox data tells us about how to position:

  • Start creating now. Roblox's top earners didn't wait for the platform to mature. They started early, iterated constantly, and compounded their audience over years. You have seven months to build your FiveM portfolio before the GTA 6 gold rush.
  • Think in experiences, not items. The biggest Roblox paydays go to experience creators, not item sellers. Build RP servers, custom game modes, and complete experiences — not just individual scripts or vehicle models.
  • Build on the Cfx Marketplace. Your track record there is your resume for whatever Rockstar builds next. Publish, get reviews, build a following.
  • Study Roblox Studio and UEFN. Not because GTA 6 will use them, but because they represent the UX paradigm Rockstar's Creator Platform team is studying. Understanding how managed creator platforms work gives you an edge.
  • Don't quit your day job yet. Even Roblox's top 1,000 creators — earning $1.3M average — represent a tiny fraction of the 23,500 who received any payout at all. Creator economies reward the exceptional. Build your skills and audience first, then go full-time when the economics justify it.

The Bottom Line

Roblox proved that a gaming platform can generate $1.5 billion in annual creator payouts. GTA 6 has a smaller but wealthier and higher-converting audience, a pre-existing creator ecosystem, and the most anticipated game launch in entertainment history driving attention.

The conservative estimate puts GTA 6's creator economy at $240 million annually. The bull case puts it at $1.5 billion — matching Roblox itself. The truth will likely land somewhere in between, but even the low end represents a generational opportunity for anyone willing to start building now.

Roblox took 18 years. GTA 6 could reach scale in 18 months. The playbook is written. The question is who's going to run it.
