Overview

The Micro SMG is the GTA series' signature little bullet-hose — the compact, one-handed machine pistol synonymous with drive-bys since the earliest games. It is a member of the Uzi family rather than a MAC: in GTA V and Online it is modelled specifically on the Mini Uzi, with folding stock and rails borrowed from the modernised Uzi Pro. Tiny, controllable in one hand, and built around rate of fire rather than range.

The Micro SMG's whole identity is chaos at close range: a blistering fire rate, hip-fired one-handed in many games, with accuracy and per-shot damage as the trade-off. It empties its magazine fast and reloads often — historically one of the weakest guns by raw damage in its class, but lethal up close and ideal from a moving car. How GTA 6 tunes its damage, spread and capacity is unconfirmed, though that drive-by role has stayed constant for over two decades.

What We Know for GTA 6

Rockstar has not featured the Micro SMG in any official GTA 6 trailer or screenshot. A weapon resembling it was visible in the unofficial September 2022 gameplay leak — but a leak is not a Rockstar confirmation, so its return is best treated as a strong franchise expectation rather than an announced fact.

How to Obtain

Unconfirmed for GTA 6. Across the series it has been an early, inexpensive pick-up — cheap at Ammu-Nation in GTA V and commonly dropped by gang enemies — but no GTA 6 price, store, spawn point or unlock has been announced, so this page lists none.

History in the GTA Series

The Micro SMG is one of the most series-spanning weapons GTA has: in one form or another it has appeared in essentially every game since Grand Theft Auto III, where it was simply called the Uzi. Vice City rendered it as a full-size Uzi (labelled "Uzi 9mm" / "Uz-I"); San Andreas and GTA IV used the compact Micro Uzi pistol; the Chinatown Wars HUD image actually resembled an Ingram MAC-11. In GTA V and Online it settled on the Mini Uzi under the in-game Shrewsbury brand. Throughout, its job never changed — the cheap, fast, close-range gun favoured by street gangs and the classic tool for a drive-by.

Real-World History

The Uzi was designed by Major Uziel "Uzi" Gal, a German-born Israeli officer (born Gotthard Glas, 1923) who fled Nazi Germany and developed the weapon for Israel Military Industries after the 1948 Arab–Israeli War. His first prototype was finished in 1950; the design was adopted in 1951, reached IDF special forces in 1954, and entered general issue in 1956. Its key trick was a telescoping bolt that wraps around the barrel and a magazine that feeds through the pistol grip — letting a very short, stamped-steel weapon still hold a useful magazine. Gal, notably, asked that it not be named after him, and never earned royalties from it; the rights belonged to the Israeli Ministry of Defense.

Cheap to stamp out, simple to service and ruggedly reliable, the Uzi became the best-selling submachine gun in the world from the 1960s through the 1980s, exported to dozens of countries. It also became a pop-culture icon — its silhouette as recognisable as the AK-47 — burned into public memory by moments like the 1981 Reagan assassination attempt, where a Secret Service agent drew one. Smaller Mini Uzi and Micro Uzi variants followed, shrinking the design toward machine-pistol size; the Mini Uzi is the exact model GTA V's Micro SMG is built on.
