Any purchase price or weekly income you see attached to a GTA 6 cab firm is invented. What’s solid is the precedent: GTA V shipped a buyable cab company with exact, known numbers — which is the realistic basis for expecting something similar, not a promise of it.
The Franchise Precedent: Downtown Cab Co.
This is unusually concrete. In GTA V, after the Friends Reunited mission, Franklin can buy the Downtown Cab Co. depot in East Vinewood for $200,000. It pays a modest $2,000 a week — famously a poor return, roughly 100 in-game weeks to break even — but it unlocks free cab fast-travel and a string of nine optional Private Fare side-missions handed out by the manager, Raul. GTA Online later revived the depot too: with the Los Santos Drug Wars update, players could run Taxi Work free-mode missions from the same Downtown Cab Co.
That gives GTA 6 a clean, recent model to copy: a cheap themed business with passive income plus driving missions. And taxi-driving itself is franchise heritage — a side-job that goes back to the series’ early days. The precedent is real and specific; its return is still just expectation.
The Real Miami Taxi Story
The for-hire trade a Vice City would draw on has lived through a genuine upheaval. Miami-Dade ran a classic medallion system — county-issued permits, capped in number, treated under local law as “intangible property” that owners could lease out or borrow against. They were valuable: a 2012 county auction saw medallions average around $400,000 apiece, and only a few dozen new ones were issued a year.
Then rideshare arrived. After years of Uber and Lyft operating in a legal gray zone — drivers ticketed in county sting operations, especially at the airport — Miami-Dade voted in 2016 to legalize them. Medallion values collapsed by roughly 90%, to around $35,000–$40,000 at auction; the county had only about 2,100 medallions against 4,500-plus licensed drivers, now dwarfed by Uber’s fleet. Medallion owners sued for $1 billion, arguing the deregulation was an unconstitutional “taking” — and lost, as similar suits had in other cities. It’s a compact, dramatic story of a regulated business gutted by an app, and exactly the kind of background a Florida crime game can mine.
