What the Leak Claims
An insider known as DetectiveSeeds posted on X (formerly Twitter) on April 9, 2026, that after reaching out to over 90 former Rockstar employees via LinkedIn, three responded with the same answer: GTA 6's PC version is targeting a February 2027 release. All three sources noted the timeline could shift, but stated that Take-Two and Rockstar wanted to ship the PC version before the end of their fiscal year, which closes March 31, 2027.
The claim is unverified. Three respondents out of ninety is a small sample, and former employees may not have current knowledge of internal schedules. However, the consistency of the answer — and its alignment with Take-Two's financial incentives — has made it the most discussed GTA 6 leak in weeks.
Rockstar's PC History
A February 2027 PC release would represent a radical departure from how Rockstar has handled platform launches. GTA V launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013 and did not reach PC until April 2015 — an 18-month gap. Red Dead Redemption 2 hit consoles in October 2018 and arrived on PC in November 2019, a 13-month wait. Both gaps served a clear business purpose: maximize console sales during the initial hype window, then capture the PC audience as a second revenue wave.
A three-month gap would essentially eliminate the console exclusivity window. This is why skeptics find the February 2027 date difficult to believe — it would mean Rockstar developed the PC version in parallel with consoles to an unprecedented degree, and that Take-Two has decided the revenue benefit of a fast PC launch outweighs the traditional console-first strategy.
The Financial Case For and Against
The argument in favor of a fast PC port is straightforward: money. Take-Two's fiscal year ends March 31, 2027. A February PC launch would allow the company to book both console and PC revenue within the same fiscal year, creating the largest single-year revenue figure possible for investor presentations. Industry analyst DFC Intelligence projects GTA 6 will generate $3.2 billion in its first year — adding PC revenue to that same reporting period would push the number significantly higher.
The argument against: Rockstar's internal data reportedly shows that GTA Online generates 97% of its weekly revenue from console players, with PC contributing just 3%. If the online mode is the long-term revenue engine — and it is — then the console-first strategy serves to build the most valuable player base on the most profitable platform first. A fast PC port could cannibalize day-one console sales from players who would prefer to wait three months for higher frame rates and mod support.
What a PC Version Would Offer
If and when GTA 6 arrives on PC, players can expect the platform's traditional advantages: higher frame rates, ray tracing at full resolution, ultrawide monitor support, and eventually mod support — though mods will almost certainly be restricted from the online mode. The game's RAGE 9 engine is built around aggressive texture streaming that requires SSD storage, meaning a high-speed NVMe drive will likely be a minimum requirement rather than a recommendation.
Official PC system requirements have not been announced. Rockstar will release those closer to the actual PC launch date, whenever that turns out to be. For now, the community consensus is that a modern mid-range GPU (equivalent to an RTX 4070 or above) and a fast NVMe SSD will be the baseline for a smooth experience.
Our Take
The February 2027 date is plausible but far from confirmed. The financial logic is sound, and Take-Two has shown increasing willingness to accelerate platform rollouts across its portfolio. However, a three-month PC port would be unprecedented for Rockstar, and the leak comes from a source with a mixed track record. The safer bet, based on Rockstar's history, is a late 2027 or early 2028 PC release — but this is one case where breaking the pattern would make strategic sense.
