When Will Pre-Orders Open?
Rockstar hasn't announced a pre-order date, but we can make a strong prediction based on two facts: Take-Two has confirmed that GTA 6's marketing campaign begins in summer 2026, and pre-orders for major Rockstar titles have historically opened 4-5 months before launch.
That puts the most likely window at June–July 2026, potentially timed alongside Trailer 3 or a gameplay reveal at Summer Game Fest. The PlayStation Store database additions spotted by data miners in early 2026 further support this timeline — those backend entries are a necessary precursor to listing a game for pre-order.
Take-Two Earnings Call
Likely confirms release date is locked. May tease marketing timeline. Pre-order infrastructure quietly goes live on console stores.
Trailer 3 + Pre-Orders Open
Gameplay reveal drops, editions announced, pre-orders go live simultaneously on PS Store, Xbox Store, and retailers. This is the big moment.
Pre-Load & Final Marketing Push
Physical editions appear at retail. Pre-load becomes available on digital stores 1-2 weeks before launch. Collector's editions may sell out.
Launch Day
Midnight unlock on digital. Physical copies available in stores. Pre-order bonuses active from day one.
Expected Editions & Pricing
Rockstar hasn't confirmed editions yet, but based on GTA V's structure and current industry pricing, here's what to expect:
Standard Edition
The full single-player campaign. Jason & Lucia's story across Leonida. This is all most people need. Digital and physical versions available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Deluxe / Special Edition
Expected to include early access (2-3 days), GTA Online starter bonuses (cash, properties, vehicles), bonus single-player content (outfits, weapons, a bonus vehicle), and digital art/soundtrack. This is the sweet spot for fans who want extras without going overboard.
Collector's Edition
Physical collectibles: steelbook case, printed map of Leonida, art book, possible figurine or replica. All Deluxe digital bonuses included. Physical editions have been confirmed for GTA 6, and a collector's tier is virtually guaranteed for a launch this big. These will sell out. Fast.

Where to Pre-Order Safely
✅ PlayStation Store (Digital)
Direct from Sony. Enables pre-load. Auto-downloads before launch so you're playing at midnight.
✅ Xbox / Microsoft Store (Digital)
Direct from Microsoft. Same pre-load benefits. Smart Delivery ensures the right version for your console.
✅ Major Retailers (Physical)
Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, GameStop, Target. Stick to these for physical copies. Look for retailer-exclusive bonuses.
✅ Rockstar Warehouse
Rockstar's own store. Likely the only place for exclusive Collector's Edition variants. Watch for limited quantities.
Scam Red Flags
GTA 6 is the biggest target for pre-order scams in gaming history. Millions of people are desperate to secure their copy, and scammers know it. Here's what to watch out for:
🚨 "Pre-Order Now" Before Official Announcement
If a website is offering GTA 6 pre-orders before Rockstar/Take-Two officially announce them, it's a scam. Full stop. No exceptions. No legitimate retailer can sell pre-orders before the publisher authorizes them.
🚨 Heavily Discounted Pricing
GTA 6 will not be $39.99 or "50% off" at launch. It will be $69.99 standard across the board. Any site offering a significant discount before launch is either selling stolen keys, taking your money and running, or harvesting your payment information.
🚨 PC Pre-Orders
GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. There is no confirmed PC version at launch. Any site selling a PC pre-order right now is lying. A PC version will likely come in early 2027, but that hasn't been announced.
🚨 Social Media "Giveaway" Links
Fake accounts impersonating Rockstar offering "free copies" or "beta access" in exchange for clicking a link or entering payment details. Rockstar will never ask for your credit card through a tweet. If it seems too good to be true, it is.
Our Pre-Order Strategy
Here's what we recommend once pre-orders officially open:
- Don't rush. Pre-orders won't sell out digitally. Physical special editions might, but the standard game will always be available. Take a breath.
- Digital if you want day-one access. Pre-loading means you're playing at midnight. Physical copies require a trip to the store or waiting for delivery.
- Take the Edition Quiz. Not sure which edition is right for you? Our Edition Quiz asks 5 questions and recommends the best fit for your playstyle and budget.
- Budget for it now. Start setting aside the money. Use our How to Prepare guide for a complete launch-day readiness checklist.
