✓ UPDATE — JUNE 25, 2026: PRE-ORDERS ARE OPEN

This guide was written before pre-orders opened. They're live now, and the facts it forecasts are settled: $79.99 Standard, $99.99 Ultimate, two editions only, no Collector's tier announced, physical copies contain a download code rather than a disc, pre-load starts November 12, and the Vintage Vice City Pack comes with any purchase before November 20. The guidance below on avoiding scams and choosing a retailer still holds. The edition-tier structure it describes does not. See GTA 6 Editions for what's actually on sale.

Status — July 16, 2026: Pre-orders are open. They went live at midnight local time on June 25, 2026 at the PlayStation Store, the Xbox Store, the Rockstar Store and major retailers. That inverts the warning this post originally carried. Before June 25, any site selling GTA 6 pre-orders was a scam by definition, because there was nothing to sell. Now the official storefronts are real, and the fakes are the ones imitating them. The scam guidance below still holds, but the test has changed: it is no longer whether pre-orders exist, it is whether you reached the storefront yourself rather than through a link someone sent you.

When Will Pre-Orders Open?

GRADED — HIT. This section called a June–July 2026 window from Take-Two's summer-marketing commitment and Rockstar's historical 4–5 month pre-order lead. Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026. The reasoning is preserved below as written; it is no longer a live prediction.

Rockstar hasn't announced a pre-order date, but we can make a strong prediction based on two facts: Take-Two has confirmed that GTA 6's marketing campaign begins in summer 2026, and pre-orders for major Rockstar titles have historically opened 4-5 months before launch.

That puts the most likely window at June–July 2026, potentially timed alongside Trailer 3 or a gameplay reveal at Summer Game Fest. The PlayStation Store database additions spotted by data miners in early 2026 further support this timeline — those backend entries are a necessary precursor to listing a game for pre-order.

1
May 2026

Take-Two Earnings Call

Likely confirms release date is locked. May tease marketing timeline. Pre-order infrastructure quietly goes live on console stores.

2
June–July 2026

Trailer 3 + Pre-Orders Open

Gameplay reveal drops, editions announced, pre-orders go live simultaneously on PS Store, Xbox Store, and retailers. This is the big moment.

3
August–October 2026

Pre-Load & Final Marketing Push

Confirmed since: physical boxes hit retail November 12 — containing a download code, not a disc — and pre-load opens the same day. Nothing sells out; there is no Collector's Edition and both tiers are digital-first.

Launch Day

Midnight unlock on digital. Physical copies available in stores. Pre-order bonuses active from day one.

The Confirmed Editions

Rockstar announced these on June 24, 2026. This section originally predicted a three-tier Standard / Deluxe / Collector's ladder at $69.99–$149.99+ on the GTA V pattern. That prediction was wrong, and it's been replaced rather than preserved, because this is a buyer's guide and a buyer's guide that argues with reality is worse than useless. The graded version of that forecast lives on Pricing Predictions vs. Reality.

BASE GAME

Standard Edition

$79.99

The full single-player campaign — Jason and Lucia's story across Leonida. This is all most people need. Nothing in the story is locked behind the higher tier.

EXTRAS INCLUDED

Ultimate Edition

$99.99

Rockstar's description: "an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia's story." Named items include the '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy with the Paradise Garage in Watson Bay, and the '95 Grotti Cheetah, plus Ultimate-only shops, garages and vendors. Items unlock chapter by chapter rather than arriving up front.

FREE — DEADLINE NOV 20

Vintage Vice City Pack

$0

Included with every pre-order or purchase made before November 20, 2026 — both editions. The '55 Vapid Stanier and the Shore Court garage near Ocean Beach, outfits and hairstyles for Jason and Lucia, and a tropical weapon pattern styled after Tommy Vercetti's shirt. Because it runs through launch day, there's no scarcity reason to pre-order early. Digital pre-orders on PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store also get a free month of GTA+; physical buyers don't.

There is no Collector's Edition. Rockstar announced two editions and stopped. That isn't a denial — GTA V's physical collector's sets came through separate announcements — but nothing has been announced, so there is nothing to wait for or race to. Also worth knowing before you buy: the physical version contains a download code, not a disc, and it arrives November 12 so boxed buyers can pre-load alongside everyone else.

For the full breakdown of what each edition includes, see our GTA 6 Editions page or Price & Pre-Order.

Where to Pre-Order Safely

✅ PlayStation Store (Digital)

Direct from Sony. Enables pre-load. Auto-downloads before launch so you're playing at midnight.

✅ Xbox / Microsoft Store (Digital)

Direct from Microsoft. Same pre-load benefits. Smart Delivery ensures the right version for your console.

✅ Major Retailers (Physical)

Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, GameStop, Target. Stick to these for physical copies — remembering the box holds a download code. No retailer-exclusive bonuses have been announced for GTA 6; the Vintage Vice City Pack is the same from every seller.

✅ Rockstar Warehouse

Rockstar's own store. It sells the same two editions at the same prices as everyone else — there are no Warehouse-exclusive variants and no Collector's Edition to hunt. Rockstar announced two SKUs on June 24 and stopped.

Scam Red Flags

GTA 6 is the biggest target for pre-order scams in gaming history. Millions of people are desperate to secure their copy, and scammers know it. Here's what to watch out for:

🚨 "Pre-Order Now" Before Official Announcement

If a website is offering GTA 6 pre-orders before Rockstar/Take-Two officially announce them, it's a scam. Full stop. No exceptions. No legitimate retailer can sell pre-orders before the publisher authorizes them.

🚨 Heavily Discounted Pricing

GTA 6 will not be $39.99 or "50% off" at launch. It is $79.99 for Standard and $99.99 for Ultimate, across the board. Any site offering a significant discount before launch is either selling stolen keys, taking your money and running, or harvesting your payment information.

🚨 PC Pre-Orders

GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. There is no confirmed PC version at launch. Any site selling a PC pre-order right now is lying. A PC version will likely come in early 2027, but that hasn't been announced.

🚨 Social Media "Giveaway" Links

Fake accounts impersonating Rockstar offering "free copies" or "beta access" in exchange for clicking a link or entering payment details. Rockstar will never ask for your credit card through a tweet. If it seems too good to be true, it is.

Our Pre-Order Strategy

Here's what we recommend once pre-orders officially open:

  • Don't rush. Pre-orders won't sell out digitally. Physical special editions might, but the standard game will always be available. Take a breath.
  • Digital if you want day-one access. Pre-loading means you're playing at midnight. Physical copies require a trip to the store or waiting for delivery.
  • Take the Edition Quiz. Not sure which edition is right for you? Our Edition Quiz asks 5 questions and recommends the best fit for your playstyle and budget.
  • Budget for it now. Start setting aside the money. Use our How to Prepare guide for a complete launch-day readiness checklist.
We'll update this article the moment pre-orders officially open. Until then, don't give anyone your money for GTA 6. Bookmark this page and check back.
