Overview

The Assault Shotgun is the GTA series' answer to the question "what if a shotgun had a magazine and a trigger you could hold down." It is the rapid-fire shotgun: where the pump guns fire one heavy shell at a time, the Assault Shotgun feeds from a box or drum and lays down a fast stream of close-range fire, at the cost of accuracy past short distances. It has been a fixture of the modern, HD-era games rather than the early top-down ones.

Honest note: no GTA 6 figures exist for this weapon — everything specific below is franchise history or clearly-flagged expectation.

Character & Behaviour

The Assault Shotgun's identity in GTA has always been volume of fire: it empties faster than any pump shotgun and is brutal in a doorway or a tight interior, but the spread opens up quickly and it burns ammunition at a rate that punishes missed shots. In GTA Online it has long been a Rank-locked mid-tier purchase rather than a free starter weapon. Whether any of that — rate of fire, spread, capacity, damage — survives into GTA 6 is unknown; Rockstar has published nothing.

What We Know for GTA 6

Rockstar has not shown an automatic shotgun in any GTA 6 trailer, screenshot or leak; its inclusion is a franchise expectation, not a confirmed fact.

How to Obtain

Unconfirmed for GTA 6. In GTA V it was an Ammu-Nation purchase unlocked through story progress, and in GTA Online a Rank-gated buy — but no GTA 6 price, store, rank or unlock has been announced, so this page lists none.

History in the GTA Series

The Assault Shotgun proper debuted in GTA IV, where it was modelled on the drum-fed Armsel/Penn Arms Striker — the distinctive cylindrical-magazine "Street Sweeper" look. Its The Ballad of Gay Tony expansion ran a separate full-auto "Auto Shotgun" based on the AA-12. In GTA V and GTA Online the Assault Shotgun returned with a fresh design under the Vom Feuer brand, this time clearly drawn from the Turkish UTAS UTS-15 — though in-game it fires full-auto from a box magazine, unlike the real, pump-action bullpup it copies. Across both eras the weapon's role stayed constant: the shotgun for players who valued rate of fire over precision.

Real-World History

The fully-automatic combat shotgun is a surprisingly niche real-world category. The Armsel Striker, designed in South Africa/Rhodesia in the 1980s, used a spring-wound 12-round revolving drum and was imported to the U.S. as the "Striker-12" or "Street Sweeper" — and was promptly classified as a destructive device under U.S. firearms law, which killed its civilian market. The UTAS UTS-15 that inspired the later GTA model is a modern Turkish bullpup pump shotgun with twin tube magazines, first shown around 2011 — compact and high-capacity, but, like most "assault" shotguns, manually cycled rather than truly automatic.

Genuinely select-fire shotguns such as the Atchisson-derived AA-12 and the Daewoo USAS-12 exist, but they have always been rare: heavy, hard to control, restricted for civilians, and adopted in only small numbers by military and security forces. That scarcity is precisely why a hold-the-trigger shotgun reads as exotic "overkill" firepower in games — the fiction of an everyday full-auto scattergun is much more common on screen than off it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Assault Shotgun confirmed for GTA 6?

No. Rockstar has not shown it in any trailer, screenshot or leak. Its inclusion is an expectation based on GTA history, not a confirmed fact.

What are the Assault Shotgun's stats in GTA 6?

Unknown. Rockstar has not published damage, fire rate, capacity, range or any other numbers for GTA 6 weapons. Any site quoting exact figures is guessing.

What is the Assault Shotgun based on?

It depends on the era: GTA IV's Assault Shotgun is modelled on the drum-fed Armsel/Penn Arms Striker (the 'Street Sweeper'), while GTA V's is based on the Turkish UTAS UTS-15. The AA-12 was actually a separate weapon (the TBoGT 'Auto Shotgun'). That real-world basis is the reliable part; the in-game performance is not yet known.

How much does the Assault Shotgun cost or how do you get it?

Not confirmed. No GTA 6 price, shop, spawn point or unlock has been announced, so this page does not list one.
