GTA 6 Status — Leak, Not Confirmed
The squirrel's only tie to GTA 6 is the September 2022 build leak, so it sits at leak-level rather than confirmed. Unlike the ground-dwelling raccoons and rats from the same leak, a squirrel's whole appeal is vertical movement — climbing trunks, running along wires and leaping between branches — which is a much harder animation problem and a good test of how far Rockstar pushes small-wildlife detail.
The Real Animal
The eastern gray squirrel (and the smaller fox and flying squirrels) are abundant across Florida's parks, suburbs and woodlands — agile tree-dwelling rodents constantly foraging, caching acorns and chasing each other through the canopy. They're the most visible small mammal in any green urban space.
Precedent in the GTA Series
Red Dead Redemption 2 famously included squirrels as the tiny targets of its varmint-rifle hunting challenges — a running joke about how granular RDR2's wildlife got. Whether GTA 6 has any equivalent use for them, or treats them as pure park atmosphere, is unconfirmed.
What Changed on This Page
Removed invented behaviour and 'confirmed' framing; relabelled as a 2022-leak sighting. Kept honest biology and RDR2 precedent.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are squirrels confirmed in GTA 6?
Not officially. Squirrels are associated with the 2022 leak rather than the trailers, so they're best treated as a leak sighting.
Did Rockstar model squirrels before?
Yes — RDR2 included squirrels as small wildlife, which is why their presence in GTA 6 is plausible.
What role would squirrels play?
Most likely ambient wildlife in parks and woodland. No mechanic has been confirmed.
