HOW-TO GUIDE GTA ONLINE

HOW TO MAKE MONEY IN GTA ONLINE

Every method ranked by pay-per-hour. Solo-friendly. Updated for 2026 — with a beginner-to-millionaire roadmap.

APRIL 22, 2026 · 12 MIN READ · BY GTA6GANG

Why this guide in 2026: GTA 6 launches in November, but GTA Online is still one of the most played games on the planet. Whether you're grinding while you wait, returning after a break, or starting fresh — this guide ranks every money-making method by actual dollars-per-hour so you can spend your time wisely. Rockstar also tends to do special events and bonuses in the lead-up to new launches.

Making money in GTA Online can feel overwhelming. There are dozens of businesses, hundreds of missions, and the game does a terrible job explaining which ones are actually worth your time. This guide cuts through the noise.

We've ranked every major method by realistic $/hour — not theoretical maximums, but what you'll actually earn accounting for setup time, cooldowns, and the occasional griefer. Solo methods are marked clearly since most players don't always have a crew online.

The Money Methods at a Glance

Cayo Perico
~$1.8M/hr
Cluckin' Bell
~$1.3M/hr
Agency VIP
~$1.0M/hr
Vehicle Cargo
~$800K/hr
Nightclub AFK
~$600K/hr*
Special Cargo
~$600K/hr
Payphone Hits
~$500K/hr
Contact Missions
~$200K/hr

*Nightclub is passive income — earns while you do other things. Actual active time is just selling.

💰 TIER 1: THE BIG EARNERS

$1M+ per hour. These are the methods you should be doing if you want serious money.

The Cayo Perico Heist

~$1.5-2M/run SOLO MEDIUM

Still the single best money-maker in GTA Online, even after nerfs. You buy the Kosatka submarine ($2.2M), scope out the island, run 4-6 prep missions, and execute the heist finale — all solo. A practiced player can complete a full cycle in about 60-75 minutes.

The key is efficiency: always take the drainage tunnel entry, use the Longfin approach for compound-only hits, and hit secondary targets on the way out. The primary target rotates between the Pink Diamond (~$1.43M), Bearer Bonds ($1.1M), Ruby Necklace ($1.0M), and the Madrazo Files ($1.1M). There's a cooldown between runs, so rotate with other methods in between.

Startup cost: $2.2M for the Kosatka | Best for: Solo players wanting the highest consistent payout

Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid

~$500K/run SOLO MEDIUM

Added in the Bottom Dollar Bounties update. Visit Vincent at the Little Seoul Police Station, complete the six-mission sequence ending in "Scene of the Crime." The finale pays ~$500K and the full sequence takes about 45 minutes once you know the flow. Play on Easy difficulty — the payout doesn't change but you'll finish faster.

This is the ideal Cayo Perico cooldown activity. Run Cayo, start the Cluckin' Bell sequence while the heist resets, then go back to Cayo. This rotation can push you past $2M/hour when optimized.

Startup cost: Free (just visit Vincent) | Best for: Filling gaps between Cayo Perico cooldowns

Agency VIP Contract

~$1M/run SOLO EASY

Buy the Agency property ($2M+), complete Dr. Dre's VIP Contract story (3 chapters), and the finale pays out roughly $1M. It's essentially a mini-heist with a great narrative. First-time bonus is even higher. After completing it once, you can replay for slightly reduced payouts.

The Agency also unlocks Payphone Hits and Security Contracts, which provide additional steady income between bigger runs.

Startup cost: $2M+ for the Agency | Best for: Players who want a mix of story content and earning
💵 TIER 2: SOLID EARNERS

$500K-$1M per hour. Reliable methods that complement Tier 1.

Vehicle Cargo (Import/Export)

~$300K/sale SOLO EASY

Buy a Vehicle Warehouse from your CEO office ($1.5M-$3.3M), source top-range vehicles, and sell them for $100K profit each — or $300K+ with the specialist dealer bonus. The trick: fill your warehouse with 10 standard and 10 mid-range cars first. After that, every source mission will give you a top-range vehicle, guaranteeing maximum profit on every sale.

Startup cost: CEO Office ($1M) + Vehicle Warehouse ($1.5M+) | Best for: Players who enjoy driving and want consistent income

Payphone Hits

$85K per hit SOLO EASY

After buying the Agency, Franklin will call you with assassination jobs. Each one takes 5-10 minutes and pays $85K if you complete the bonus objective (specific kill method). The bonus objectives are usually straightforward — things like "use a specific weapon" or "kill the target in a certain vehicle." These are perfect filler activities between bigger heists.

Startup cost: Agency ($2M+) | Best for: Quick cash between other activities, 15-minute cooldown

Special Cargo (CEO Warehouses)

$2.2M per large sale SOLO (risky) HARD

Source crates through your CEO office and store them in a Large Warehouse (111 crates). A full large warehouse sells for $2.2M+ and higher during double-money weeks. The grind is tedious — you're sourcing 3 crates at a time for $18K each — but the big payoff feels good. The risk: sell missions in public lobbies can get you griefed. Use a solo public lobby (NAT type trick) for safe sales.

Startup cost: CEO Office + Large Warehouse (~$3M total) | Best for: Patient grinders who enjoy the big single payoff
🏦 TIER 3: PASSIVE INCOME

Money that generates while you play (or AFK). Set it up once and collect regularly.

The Nightclub

~$1M per full sell PASSIVE EASY

The Nightclub is the endgame passive income machine. It accumulates stock from your other businesses (Bunker, Cocaine, Meth, Cash, Hangar/Crate Warehouse) — you don't even need to resupply those businesses for the Nightclub to generate product. Just buy the businesses, assign technicians in the Nightclub, and let it accumulate.

A full Nightclub takes about 66 hours of in-game time to fill. You can AFK safely inside the Nightclub by watching the DJ cameras (prevents idle kick). Sell with the custom delivery vehicle — Tony takes a 10% cut up to $100K max.

Startup cost: Nightclub ($1.08M+) + 5 linked businesses ($5M+ total) | Best for: Players who leave their console on, or play daily

The Bunker

$1.05M per full sell SEMI-PASSIVE EASY

Buy supplies ($75K), wait 2.5 hours of in-game time, sell to Los Santos for $210K profit. Or let it fill completely over ~12 hours for $1.05M. The Chumash Bunker is the best location — close to the city for easy sells. Buy the Staff and Equipment upgrades first (they make your product worth double). Sell in a solo public lobby to avoid griefers during delivery missions.

Startup cost: Bunker ($1.1M+) + Upgrades ($1.75M) | Best for: Background income while doing heists

MC Businesses (Cocaine, Meth, Cash)

$420K-$840K per sell cycle SEMI-PASSIVE MEDIUM

Cocaine ($420K to LS), Meth ($357K), and Counterfeit Cash ($294K) are the three worthwhile MC businesses. Buy supplies, wait for them to convert to product, sell to Los Santos. The main reason to own these in 2026 isn't actually the direct sales — it's because they feed your Nightclub passively. If you only want them for Nightclub purposes, you don't even need to upgrade them or buy supplies.

Startup cost: MC Clubhouse ($200K+) + Businesses ($1-2M each) | Best for: Feeding the Nightclub, occasional sell missions

The Beginner-to-Millionaire Roadmap

If you're starting from zero (or returning with an empty bank account), here's the exact order to build your empire:

WEEK 1
Collect free money + grind Contact Missions
Claim any free GTA$ from Rockstar promotions, Twitch/Prime Gaming drops, and the Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack if you have it. Grind Contact Missions (Gerald, Simeon, Martin Madrazo) and daily objectives. Target: $500K-$1M.
WEEK 2
Buy a CEO Office ($1M) + VIP Work
The Maze Bank West CEO Office is the cheapest at $1M. Once registered as a CEO, run VIP Work missions — "Headhunter" and "Sightseer" are the best, paying ~$25K each with no cooldown between different VIP missions. This pushes you to $200K+/hour.
WEEK 3
Save for the Kosatka ($2.2M)
This is your #1 priority purchase. The Kosatka unlocks the Cayo Perico Heist, which is the single best money-maker in the game. Grind VIP Work, do the Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid (free), and sell any collectibles. Every dollar goes toward the sub.
WEEK 4
Run Cayo Perico on repeat
Your first Cayo Perico run will take 90+ minutes as you learn. By your 5th run, you'll be doing it in 60 minutes. You're now making $1.5-2M per hour. The money gates are open. Start saving for the Agency ($2M) and a Bunker ($1.1M).
MONTH 2
Build passive income streams
Buy the Agency (Payphone Hits + VIP Contract), Chumash Bunker (with upgrades), and start setting up MC Businesses purely to feed a future Nightclub. You should have $10-20M by now.
MONTH 3
Nightclub + AFK empire
Buy the Nightclub and link all your businesses. You're now earning passively while you grind actively. Combined with Cayo Perico rotations and Payphone Hits, you're making $3-5M per play session. Welcome to being rich in GTA Online.

Weekly Bonuses & Events

📅 Always check the weekly update: Every Thursday, Rockstar rotates double/triple money events on specific activities. A business that normally earns $500K/hour could temporarily earn $1.5M/hour. Check the GTA Online loading screen, Rockstar's social media, or fan tracking sites like TezFunz2 on Twitter for the latest bonuses. During the lead-up to GTA 6, expect Rockstar to increase bonus frequency to keep players engaged.

Why This Matters for GTA 6

Rockstar hasn't confirmed whether GTA Online progress will transfer to GTA 6 Online. Based on how GTA V handled the PS3-to-PS4 and PS4-to-PS5 transitions, there's a reasonable chance some form of account migration or loyalty bonuses will exist. Players with established characters, high ranks, and large bank accounts historically received perks in the new platform version.

Even if nothing transfers, learning GTA Online's economy gives you a massive head start. The core gameplay loop — buy businesses, complete missions, manage passive income, invest profits — will almost certainly carry over in concept to GTA 6 Online. The players who understand the meta of earning will adapt faster than everyone else.

💡 The real reason to play GTA Online right now: It's still genuinely fun. The Cluckin' Bell content, the Agency storyline, and the sheer sandbox chaos of freemode are worth experiencing before GTA 6 demands all your attention. Think of it as the farewell tour.
