GTA 6 PC RELEASE

System requirements, expected release window, download size, and everything PC players need to prepare.

Status — April 2026: GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. No PC release date has been announced. Based on Rockstar's history, PC is expected in early-to-mid 2027. System requirements below are estimated based on RAGE engine analysis and comparable next-gen titles.

When is GTA 6 Coming to PC?

Rockstar has a consistent pattern of releasing GTA games on console first, with PC following later. Here's the historical gap:

GTA IV
7 months — Console April 2008, PC December 2008
GTA V
18 months — Console September 2013, PC April 2015
RDR2
13 months — Console October 2018, PC November 2019
GTA 6
~6-9 months (est.) — Console November 2026, PC Q2-Q3 2027

The gap has been shrinking. GTA V's 18-month wait was controversial, and Red Dead Redemption 2's 13-month delay was better received because Rockstar delivered a polished port. For GTA 6, industry analysts expect a 6-9 month gap, putting the PC release somewhere between May and August 2027.

Take-Two's fiscal year guidance suggests a major revenue event in fiscal Q1 2028 (April-June 2027), which aligns perfectly with a spring PC launch.

Estimated System Requirements

These are educated estimates based on the RAGE engine's capabilities, PS5/Xbox Series X target specs, and comparable next-gen PC titles. Official specs will come from Rockstar closer to the PC launch.

Download & Install Size

GTA 6 will be a massive install. Based on current-gen trends:

  • Console install size — Estimated 120-150 GB on PS5/Xbox Series X
  • PC download — Likely 100-130 GB compressed download, expanding to 150-200 GB installed
  • With 4K texture pack — An optional high-res texture pack could add 30-50 GB, pushing total install to 200-250 GB
  • SSD required — Like most next-gen titles, an SSD will be required (not just recommended) due to asset streaming architecture

PC-Exclusive Features

Rockstar's PC ports have historically included features beyond the console version:

  • Uncapped frame rate — Play at 60, 120, or 144+ fps depending on your hardware, versus the console's 30/60fps modes.
  • Ultra-wide support — 21:9 and 32:9 monitor support for immersive Leonida exploration.
  • Advanced graphics settings — 20+ individual settings for shadows, reflections, vegetation, draw distance, population density, ambient occlusion, and more.
  • DLSS 4 / FSR 4 — AI upscaling from both NVIDIA and AMD to boost performance at higher resolutions.
  • Ray tracing — Enhanced ray-traced reflections, global illumination, and shadows with path tracing options for top-end GPUs.
  • Rockstar Editor — Advanced video editor for creating cinematic replays, likely expanded from GTA V's version.
  • Keyboard & mouse aiming — Precision aiming that makes combat more accurate but requires balance adjustments in Online.
  • Mod support (unofficial) — While Rockstar doesn't officially support mods, the PC community will inevitably create visual and gameplay modifications.

Where to Buy on PC

Based on Rockstar's recent strategy:

  • Rockstar Games Launcher — Direct purchase, guaranteed day-one availability.
  • Steam — GTA V and RDR2 are both on Steam. GTA 6 will almost certainly follow, possibly with a short exclusivity window on the Rockstar Launcher.
  • Epic Games Store — Likely available, as Rockstar has released on Epic previously.
  • Xbox PC / Game Pass — A day-one Game Pass inclusion is unlikely given GTA's premium pricing, but a Game Pass deal 6-12 months post-PC-launch is possible.

How to Prepare Your PC

If you're planning to play GTA 6 on PC, here's what to do now:

  • Upgrade GPU first — The graphics card is the most impactful upgrade. Target an RTX 4070 or better for a solid 1440p experience.
  • 32 GB RAM — 16 GB is the minimum, but 32 GB ensures smooth performance with background apps and streaming.
  • NVMe SSD — Not just any SSD — an NVMe drive is strongly recommended for the asset streaming the RAGE engine requires.
  • Monitor upgrade — Consider a 1440p 144Hz panel to take full advantage of the PC version's visual capabilities.
  • Wait for benchmarks — Don't panic-buy hardware. Wait for Digital Foundry and Hardware Unboxed benchmarks at PC launch to make informed decisions.
